HIDDENVIEW HEREFORDS

Karen Husband

Hiddenview came into existence in August 2011 when Joe & Karen Paszternak bought a 100 acre farm in Peterborough County, just outside of Norwood.

The farm became home to 11 registered Hereford cows, their calves and 1 registered Hereford bull. The herd grew quickly with the addition of 9 more females purchased that fall. There are now approximately 40 cows that calve each winter, and most can be traced back to the original cows.

Herefords are known for their maternal instincts, mothering ability, docility, and their ability to do well in all environments especially from our cold winters to hot summers. The cows are bred to calve early in the year. All of the heifer calves are registered and many are sold at various consignment sales or through private treaty to commercial or purebred breeders. A few calves are selected each year to be shown at various fairs throughout the area, including the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, held in Toronto. A few heifers are retained as replacements. AI is utilized to access the popular genetics with 1 to 2 bulls used as clean up. 1 to 2 bull calves may be kept to sell to other breeders, with the remaining males either being sold as backgrounders or raised for the freezer beef market.

Our calves are born and raised here and fed until they weigh approx. 1500 lbs. Their diet consists of grass and hay until the last 90 – 120 days, when they are fed a corn based grain to finish. The beef cuts from Hereford are well marbled, providing the flavour as well as the tenderness.

Please contact us for more information, whether you are looking for your next herd sire, replacement heifers or cows, at or if your preference is filling your freezer with beef.
